ETUI-REHS – Research department
The ETUI-REHS was formed on 1 April 2005 from the merger of three existing trade union institutes to provide the European trade union movement with the scientific and technical support to reinforce its input into the EU’s social and economic policy making and also with the knowledge and skills for capacity-building and policy implementation.
Through its expertise, scientific publications, reviews and training programmes, the ETUI-REHS will provide European trade unions with the tools to participate in the European debate and to contribute actively to achieving Social Europe.
The Research department of the ETUI-REHS focuses on socio-economic issues and industrial relations. As a link between the European trade union movement and academia, it conducts and promotes research on topics of strategic importance for the world of labour.
The Research department operates via networks with research bodies in various countries. It disseminates its findings at conferences and seminars and through its wide-ranging publications, while also providing direct expertise and policy advice to the ETUC and other stakeholders.
The multidisciplinary and multi-national researchers cover a broad range of subjects, organised in three programme areas:- The world of labour and the modernisation of trade unions
- The Europeanisation of workers’ representation
- European employment and social policies

The Hans Böckler Foundation is the co-determination, research and scholarship mechanism of the German Federation of Trade Unions. And it is in these three spheres of activity that the Hans Böckler Foundation is working to help shape the working environment of the future.- It actively encourages co-determination in Germany by offering advice and support to those who practise it.
- It searches for answers to questions regarding the working environment by supporting research and conducting research itself
- It is the second-largest scholarship fund in Germany, with a clear focus on social and trade union commitment.
In the magazine Mitbestimmung [co-determination] and in the WSI-Mitteilungen [WSI Newsletters], the Hans Böckler Foundation Foundation provides monthly updates on issues from the world of work and academia. It also publishes several series of books and a variety of other publications.
